I read the passage in Exodus 3 where Moses is visited by God in a burning bush. How cool? When Moses goes to see the burning bush, God says, "Don't come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place you are standing is holy ground. I AM the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" (Exodus 3: 5-6)
God still gives us burning bush experiences. I think back to the first time I was in Africa (Kenya) and we went to an orphanage right down the road from where we were staying. The orphanage is made of some wood siding and tin roofs, not much to look at. The children were dirty, wearing ragged clothing, etc. Yet the moment we walked in the orphanage, they were all over us...but then comes the "take off your sandals" part.
The kids wanted to sing a song of blessing to us. They sang and danced, just for us as we came in. They wanted to thank us for being there, to bless us.
I knew then that I was standing on holy ground and that God was very present and real in that place.
these are some of the orphans in Meru, Kenya
God is giving us burning bush experiences all the time, we just have to recognize it. I remember one time this year at Wesley (the college ministry I was involved with in Clemson) where we sang a song that had the words, "I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned in awe of the One who gave it all and I'll stand, my soul Lord to You surrendered, all I am is Yours"
We sang it over and over again, it meaning something different to each person, but I know that no one left the church that night unchanged. We were all standing on holy ground.
I hope you have these types of experiences and that your wonder in God will never cease.
